Or is it by removing a portion of a structure you create an entryway for light, alter the experience of those inside, and influence how a building fits into its surroundings / environment.
Why do Chinese buildings have holes in them?
Have you ever realised why Hong Kong skyscrapers have holes in them? They're called dragon gates, and according to the Chinese principle feng shui these holes allow dragons to fly from the mountains to the water each day. It's believed that blocking the dragon's path could bring misfortune.
I have noticed a trend that has been used throughout history and never more prevalently in the Brutalist styles of 1950’s Architecture and is now once again filtering through the High Fashion collections of AW-2020 with designers such as Virgil Abloah’s ‘OFF-WHITE’ and Maison Margiela and also various Artists including the work of ‘Eva Hild’ and her amazing Sculptural pieces all focusing on this very specific detail.
